GIRLS FOR GOOD BOOKS

why we meet
We meet to help form the moral imaginations of our girls through the good books and poetry so that they may "know in their bones what friendship, mirth, betrayal, danger, and courage are." [William Edmond Fahey]
We meet in order to give our girls a solid foundation in the cannon of "the thousand good books as a preparation for the great ones and for all the studies in the arts and sciences, without which such studies are inhumane." [John Senior]
We meet to further the Catholic Faith of our girls in true friendship as they encounter these literary adventures & trials together, free from the temptations & distraction of virtual reality and electronics.
Our own disorders spring from so much neglect of the real soil of culture: the widely shared canon of good literature and the widely affirmed understanding that there must be goodness in literature, and that such literature should be read aloud within families and by each and every person who dares call himself civilized—before, during, and after their formal education. Goodness is the soil of greatness.
William Edmond Fahey
